Ex Vivo and In Vivo Models for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection Training
نویسندگان
چکیده
Endoscopic submucosal dissection is a technically challenging but highly effective technique for the treatment of well selected early neoplasms in the digestive tract. Although it is frequently performed in East Asian countries, the Western world has not adopted this technique yet, probably due in part to the difficulty to learn it. Ex vivo and in vivo animal models are invaluable tools to overcome at least the beginning of the learning curve, although the initial step is the acquisition of basic knowledge about early diagnosis of neoplasias, and observing real procedures in expert centers. The practical issues, advantages, and disadvantages of the ex vivo and in vivo models are discussed.

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) Training and Performing ESD with Accurate and Safe Techniques
Introduction of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has brought about a renaissance in therapeutic endoscopy. For the globalization and universalization of ESD, the number of physicians who can perform ESD has rapidly increased with general ex vivo and in vivo training using animal models and hand-on courses. In this focused review series, world-renowned ESD experts described the published s...
متن کاملESD Hands-on Course Using Ex Vivo and In Vivo Models in South Korea
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is an established treatment for gastric neoplasias especially in regions with a high volume of gastric cancer. Although ESD has many advantages over endoscopic mucosal resection, ESD is technically more difficult and can result in severe complications. Therefore establishment of an effective training system is required to help endoscopists climb the ESD le...

BACKGROUND Biodegradable hydrogels can deliver therapeutic payloads with great potentials in EMR and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) to yield improvements in efficacy and foster mucosal regeneration. OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy of an injectable drug-eluting elastomeric polymer (iDEEP) as a submucosal injection material. DESIGN Comparative study of 3 different solutions by using ...
متن کاملUsefulness of training using animal models for colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection: is experience performing gastric ESD really needed?
BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Despite the clinical advantages of colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), an effective training system, especially for Western endoscopists, has been challenging to establish. Herein, we propose a novel training program using ex vivo animal models and evaluate the learning curve of colorectal ESD trainees without gastric ESD experience. PATIENTS AND METHO...
متن کاملEx vivo experimental study on the Thulium laser system: new horizons for interventional endoscopy (with videos)
BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS The Thulium laser system (TLS) is an emerging interventional tool adopted in many surgical specialties. Its 2.0-μm wavelength allows precise coagulation (0.2 - 0.4 mm in depth) and cutting, limiting the possibilities of collateral injuries. We tested the impact of the TLS for gastric endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) ex vivo...
